Town of Lincoln Update Regarding Network Incident

On August 14, 2026, the Town of Lincoln identified an issue affecting portions of its computer network and certain Town systems. Upon discovering the issue, the Town immediately took steps to secure its network and began working with outside cybersecurity and computer forensic specialists to investigate the nature and extent of the incident. Our team of independent forensic investigators has determined that some data was potentially acquired from our systems.

At this stage of the investigation, the Town is still determining whether any sensitive data will require official notification under data privacy laws. If the investigation determines that information requiring notification was accessed or acquired without authorization, the Town will take the appropriate steps to notify and assist affected individuals. We have no indications that any data is being misused.

Protecting data in our systems is a top priority for Lincoln. We are working with cybersecurity experts to identify any concerns. Our cybersecurity measures are constantly evolving as the threat to state and local governments continues to emerge.

Our professionals (including counsel) briefed our Town Council tonight in executive session, and Police Chief Lee Miller will work with all of us to complete the investigation and help implement appropriate measures.
