The Town of Lincoln is currently responding to a cybersecurity incident affecting portions of the Town’s computer network.
Early this morning, the Town’s information technology provider, The Motorbrain Group, notified us that files on portions of the Town’s network had been encrypted. Upon discovering the incident, immediate steps were taken to isolate affected systems and prevent any further impact.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident may have originated as early as Thursday, August 13. Several Town computer systems have been affected, including the main file server and other network infrastructure.
Our IT professionals are actively investigating the incident, reviewing available backups, and developing a careful restoration plan. Systems will be brought back online methodically to ensure they can be restored safely and without the risk of reinfection.
At this time, the full scope of the incident is still being evaluated. We are working to determine what systems and information may have been affected and will provide additional information as facts are confirmed.
The Town takes the security of its systems and information seriously. Our priority is to protect the Town’s network, restore municipal operations safely, and ensure that any necessary notifications or additional actions are taken based upon the findings of the investigation.
Some Town services may experience temporary disruptions while this work is underway. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents while our IT professionals work through the recovery process.
The Town will provide additional updates as reliable information becomes available.
