Sweeper news!!
The Lincoln Public Works Department will begin our spring routine of sweeping the town streets and sidewalks. Sweeping during the month of April is dictated by the weather. When the temperature is at, or below freezing we cannot use the dust suppression system to control the dust so we cannot sweep in the interest of public health during cold weather. The town only owns one sweeper and that unit currently tries to cover 70+ lane miles so please be patient. Currently on some of our residential streets we are sweeping just the travel lanes for now to help reduce the dust caused by every day traffic, don’t worry we will return to sweep the sides of the road at a later time. This process will allow us to cover more streets earlier after which we will go back over each street to finish sweeping.
Some of the residents might have already seen the sweeper going by their house and was wondering why we didn’t sweep in front of their house. It is our policy to start at the highest point and sweep down hill, by doing this it helps to eliminate sand from washing down the hill onto an area that has already been swept.
We try to cover each street at least once by the end of May. If you believe the street sweeper has not visited your at least once by the end of May call the Public Works Department at 794-6658. If residents would like to have the sand that is swept from their street, please contact the Town Office and ask for a fill request form. Once the Code Enforcement Officer reviews the fill request we could then drop a load off when we are sweeping in the area. Street Sweeping ScheduleT
This schedule may change do to mechanical breakdowns and or the amount of material on the road surface that needs to be swept up.
We do keep track of what streets have been swept but sometimes we may inadvertently miss an area. So please contact the Public Works Department at 794-6658 if you have not seen the sweeper in your area of town by end of the scheduled week.
