As a Maine MDOT Service Center, Lincoln caters to a population of just over 22,000.  More than 12,000 vehicles drive through Main Street each day.  Six lending institutions combine to have over $120 million in deposits.  Sales tax indicators demonstrate continued growth in many sectors.  Lincoln Paper and Tissue has started its construction of a new tissue machine valued at about $37,000,000.  Economic indicators continue to look good for Lincoln. 

Wal*Mart moves forward with Super Center Plans! On August 20th the Lincoln Planning Board granted Wal*Mart a building permit!  Wal*Mart is now waiting for the remaining DEP permits necessary to start the project.  It's anticipated construction would begin sometime before next summer.  The new Super Center will be 99,000 square feet and open 24-hours a day. The building will be constructed behind the current Wal*mart (currently 55,000 square feet) on West Broadway.  The new store will employ an estimated 175 employees in addition to the already employed 100 people.  There are no plans for a tire and lube station or a drive through pharmacy.  The grand opening for the new store is estimated for 2008. The number one reason for the expansion, according to company officials, is customer demand.  For more information, enter here. 

 Lincoln Paper and Tissue, LLC is Lincoln's largest employer and the largest party napkin supplier in North America.   The mill is nearing completion of a 4 year, $80 million investment program that included expanding production by building the first new paper machine in Maine since 1993 and investing in energy projects, highlighted by a new turbine generator that will become fully functional in 2008 and allow the mill to improve its environmental performance by increasing electricity self-sufficiency from 25% to 55% and reducing the amount of oil burned to make process steam by over 90%.

    Lincoln is home to several different industry types.  The Johnston Dandy Company has been utilized by papermakers using Dandy Rolls (see picture at left) for over 150 years to produce watermarks in machine made papers, and to make improvements in the sheet. Dandy Rolls are used for improving formation, closing up the sheet, smoothing the top side surface, improving felt side quality and printability and improving drying.
